Sponsor hotel and restaurant staff within the new rules
The rules for hospitality roles changed on 22 July 2025, and most chef and manager roles can no longer be sponsored for new hires. Borderless checks which roles still qualify, helps you keep the staff you already sponsor, and checks hours and pay at every venue, with an IAA-regulated immigration adviser behind every case.

Who you can sponsor today
Since 22 July 2025, most new Skilled Worker sponsorship needs a graduate-level role. Here’s how that plays out for hotels, restaurants and bars.
Open to new hires
Graduate-level roles
Roles at degree level (RQF 6) or above, such as financial managers or marketing directors at head office, if the salary meets the threshold and the going rate.
Current staff only
Chefs and hospitality managers
Chefs, and hotel, restaurant, pub, catering and bar managers, for workers who held Skilled Worker permission before 22 July 2025 and have held it continuously since.
Not eligible
Kitchen, front of house and housekeeping
Cooks, kitchen assistants, waiting and bar staff, receptionists and housekeepers can’t be sponsored on the Skilled Worker route.

Ready for a visit
Every file checked against Appendix D
Sponsorship that fits shifts and several venues
Shift patterns, several venues and changing rules make sponsorship harder to get right in hospitality. Borderless does the checking, and an IAA-regulated adviser reviews the work.
Eligible roles
Know which roles still qualify
We check each role and occupation code against the current rules before you make an offer, so nobody is promised a visa the role can’t support.
Your current team
Keep the people you already sponsor
Every visa end date is tracked across every venue, and each extension is started early, while the worker still qualifies.
Hours and pay
Pay checked against every certificate
Only guaranteed basic pay counts. Overtime, shift pay, staff meals and accommodation don’t. We compare payroll with each certificate, so a short week is caught early.
Multi-venue
Every venue on one record
Each sponsored worker is tied to their venue. A move to another site is flagged and reported within 10 working days.
Audit readiness
Ready when the Home Office visits
Appendix D records for every sponsored worker, checked against the Home Office list, with a live health score for each venue and licence.
Your adviser
An IAA-regulated adviser on every case
Immigration advisers regulated by the Immigration Advice Authority check eligibility and review anything before it goes to the Home Office.
Questions we’re often asked
Can we still sponsor chefs?
Not as new hires. Since 22 July 2025, chef roles below degree level can only be sponsored for workers who were granted Skilled Worker permission before that date and have held permission continuously since. Your adviser checks each case.
Can our current sponsored staff extend?
Usually, yes, if they were granted Skilled Worker permission before 22 July 2025 and have held it continuously since. Borderless tracks every end date and starts extensions early.
Are any hospitality roles on the Temporary Shortage List?
No. None of the main hotel, restaurant or bar roles are on it, and the current list only runs until the end of 2026.
Do overtime and staff meals count towards salary?
No. Only guaranteed basic pay, and other guaranteed payments treated the same way, count. Overtime, shift pay, allowances and benefits in kind such as meals don’t, and only the first 48 hours a week are counted.
Can you help us prepare for a compliance visit?
Yes. Every sponsored worker’s file is checked against Appendix D, and your adviser can run a mock audit so you know what the Home Office would find.
