Academic hires, with every department on one record
Academic hires come with their own rules: PhD salary rates, research clearances, and staff spread across faculties under one licence. Borderless checks each hire against those rules, gives HR a live view of every department, and puts an IAA-regulated immigration adviser behind every case.

Central oversight, without chasing every faculty
Sponsored academics sit across faculties, but the licence sits with the institution. Borderless gives HR one record, and each department a clear view of its own sponsored staff.
Academic hires
Lecturers and researchers, sponsored properly
Skilled Worker applications for teaching and research staff, with the role, occupation code, and salary checked before a certificate is assigned.
Salary rules
PhD and postdoc rates applied correctly
A relevant PhD can bring the salary requirement down to 90% of the going rate, or 80% for a STEM PhD. Some postdoctoral roles can use 70%. We check the evidence first.
Research clearance
Roles that need ATAS, flagged early
Some research roles need an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate before the visa application. We flag the roles that might, before you make the offer.
Site view
Every campus, one licence
Sponsored staff grouped by campus or site, with each person’s access limited to the sites they need, while HR keeps the central view.
Reporting
Changes reported inside the deadline
A new job title, a move to another campus, or a contract ending early each start a Home Office deadline. Each one is flagged with its deadline and a pre-filled report.
Audit readiness
Ready for a compliance visit
Appendix D records for every sponsored member of staff, checked as records change, with a live health score for the licence.
Questions we’re often asked
Can a PhD lower the salary we need to pay?
Yes, if the PhD is relevant to the job and the occupation code is eligible. The salary can be 90% of the going rate, or 80% for a PhD in a STEM subject, as long as it stays above the minimum for the route. Your adviser checks the evidence before the certificate is assigned.
Can you help with Global Talent visas for academics?
Not yet. Global Talent is one of the routes we’re adding next, and you can register interest to hear when it launches. Today we handle Skilled Worker sponsorship for academic and research staff.
Do our researchers need ATAS clearance?
Some do, depending on the occupation code and the subject of their research. Where it’s needed, the certificate must be in place before the visa application, so we flag roles that may need it early.
Can we limit what each team sees?
Yes. Each user gets access to the specific businesses and sites they need, as an Owner, Editor or Viewer.
